Wednesday, January 21st, 2026:

I voted YES on HB 5113 (Rep. Outman) would provide a process for correcting errors on an application for a CPL.

EXPLANATION:

Mistakes happen, especially in the context of administrative tasks like applying for licenses. If either the applicant or government makes a mistake, the applicant should not be punished for something as trivial as a clerical error.

PASSED: 78-27

I voted YES on HB 4980 (Rep. Maddock) would allow individuals to obtain CPLs from the county clerk of any county in the state, instead of only being able to obtain a CPL from the county clerk in the county in which the individual resides.

EXPLANATION:

Unfortunately, there are county governments in Michigan that are hostile to people’s Second Amendment rights. They slow-walk the process to obtain a CPL and create unnecessary delays simply to frustrate the people of Michigan. Residents of these counties should not be subjected to this form of petty tyranny, and they should be able to obtain their CPL from a county that recognizes the constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms.

PASSED: 60-45

I voted YES on HB 5314-5316 (Reps. Rigas, DeBoyer, Cavitt) would eliminate the Michigan Attorney General’s powers to file civil actions and criminal prosecutions in Ingham County, when the action arose or the alleged crime occurred in another county. The bills would also restrict the Attorney General’s ability to intervene in lawsuits filed outside the state of Michigan.

EXPLANATION:

Lawfare has become an insidious problem throughout the country. Michigan’s Attorney General used lawfare during covid era crackdowns as a means of trampling people’s rights. The attorney general of Michigan should focus on Michigan-related issues and uphold the principle of justice by refusing to persecute political opponents while letting allies off the hook.

PASSED: 56-49, PASSED: 56-49, PASSED: 56-49

Thursday, January 22nd, 2026:

I voted YES on HB 5154 (Rep. Smit) would require public schools to accept cash as payment for admission to sporting events.

EXPLANATION:

Cash is legal tender, and it is only sensible that cash is accepted as payment for admission to sporting events hosted by government schools. Given recent trends toward a cashless society that could be weaponized by freezing digital assets, it is important to acknowledge that people still use cash in their transactions.

PASSED: 85-17

I voted YES on HB 4678&79 (Reps. Aragona, Liberati) would amend the Weights and Measures Act to update the standards for refueling rental equipment upon return to the rental facility. Would amend the Weights and Measures Act to update the inspection and testing requirements for fuel dispensers.

EXPLANATION:

Heavy equipment rental companies have the market right to decide on refueling rates. If they wish to charge a per-gallon fee, which is generally more accurate than a flat fee, then companies should have this opportunity protected. Additionally, this is a step in the right direction as it removes inspection requirements for rental facilities.

PASSED: 100-2, PASSED: 98-4
