Dear Neighbor,
Transparency and accountability are essential to good governance. As a member of the Oversight Committee and Vice Chair of the Government Weaponization Committee, I am committed to ensuring that our government operates with integrity, that taxpayer dollars are used responsibly, and that government agencies remain accountable to the people they serve.
Currently, the Oversight Committee is investigating multiple issues affecting Michigan residents—ranging from election transparency to the use of taxpayer money for legal fees and the enforcement of fentanyl-related crimes. In each of these cases, state officials and agencies have failed to provide most of the requested information in a timely manner. If necessary, the committee will discuss next steps, including the possibility of issuing a legally binding subpoena to compel compliance and ensure the public gets the answers it deserves.
Election Oversight: Demanding Election Training Materials
One of our top priorities in the Oversight Committee is obtaining clerk training materials from Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s office. These materials detail how election officials across Michigan are being instructed to handle critical election procedures, including voter registration, absentee ballots, and ballot counting. Ensuring that clerks are being trained fairly and accurately is essential for maintaining public trust in our elections.
Despite multiple formal requests, the Secretary of State’s office has refused to release these materials. This lack of transparency raises serious concerns about whether election officials are being properly trained and if any partisan bias is influencing the process.
If Secretary Benson’s office does not comply, the Oversight Committee will discuss next steps, including possible issuance of a legally binding subpoena to force the release of this information. The people of Michigan deserve transparency in how their elections are conducted, and we will not back down in ensuring public confidence in our system.
Flint Water Crisis: Where Did Taxpayer Money Go?
The Flint Water Crisis remains one of the most devastating failures of government in Michigan’s history. Many families continue to deal with its long-term effects, and Michigan taxpayers deserve to know how much of their money has been spent on legal fees related to the crisis.
The Attorney General’s office has refused to disclose how much taxpayer money has been used to cover legal costs in ongoing Flint-related lawsuits and settlements. Despite repeated inquiries, no clear accounting has been provided.
The Oversight Committee is demanding transparency and will review potential actions, including the issuance of a subpoena, to obtain these financial records. Michigan families should not have to wonder whether their hard-earned tax dollars are being misused or if they are being kept in the dark about how funds are allocated. If the Attorney General’s office does not provide this information voluntarily, the committee will take further action to ensure that the truth is made public.
Criminal Justice Delays: Waiting on Michigan State Police
Public safety is a top concern for families across our state, and the deadly fentanyl crisis continues to destroy lives. My office has requested information on how long it takes for the Michigan State Police to issue arrest warrants for fentanyl and overdose cases. The trafficking and distribution of fentanyl is fueling an epidemic of overdose deaths, and law enforcement must act swiftly to hold criminals accountable.
I am waiting for the Michigan State Police to release this critical data. If there are delays in issuing warrants for fentanyl traffickers, the public has a right to know why. These delays could be allowing criminals to remain free and continue poisoning our communities.
If the Michigan State Police fails to comply with my data request, I will discuss next steps with the Committee Chair. The safety of Michigan families is too important to allow bureaucratic delays to stand in the way of justice.
Holding Government Accountable
As Vice Chair of the Government Weaponization Committee, I am focused on exposing and stopping government agencies from abusing their power. Whether it’s the suppression of free speech, the misuse of taxpayer money, or a failure to enforce the law, we must ensure that the government is working for the people—not against them.
The Oversight Committee and Government Weaponization Committee will continue working to uncover the truth and hold state officials accountable. If agencies refuse to cooperate, we will use every legal tool available, including discussing the issuance of legally binding subpoenas, to ensure transparency and accountability.
